đŸ„‹ Sundays with Cain – Episode 10 - A ROLL & RUMBLE Fight Co. Exclusive

đŸŽ€ Interview by “D-Man,” CTF Inmate Correspondent

This Sunday kicked off with chaos. Bright and early, building officers informed Cain he was trans-packing for court. For the uninitiated, that means boxing up all your belongings, hauling them to Receiving & Release, and then waiting—sometimes days—for a van to haul you off to county jail.

In Cain’s case, he’s headed back only to testify in a pending case. (We won’t discuss the details for legal reasons.) Originally, he thought he’d be leaving today—but it turns out he’s not rolling out until Thursday. And he won’t return until court wraps—could be a day, a week, maybe longer.

Despite all that, by noon, Cain was back on the yard. My celly even made tostadas to celebrate Cain’s birthday, which is tomorrow—July 28. Cain returned the gesture by buying ice cream for a few of us as part of his own celebration.

He still led our breathwork class, and afterward, we sat down for our usual Sunday talk.

🔧 CAIN THE HEALER

Yesterday, I saw Cain working on a guy in the dayroom—looked like some kind of physical therapy session.

“His pec and shoulder were super tight,” Cain said. “I was breaking down the knots.”

He looked like a pro doing it, so I asked where he learned all that.

“In college, our physical therapists worked on us after practice and matches,” he explained.
“With the UFC, though, you’re like a general contractor. You hire your own team—out of your own pocket. I learned to do this kind of stuff on myself.”

At that moment, Cain grabbed a softball from a guy next to us—the same one he showed him how to use for muscle release.

🧘 ASCENSION ON THE YARD

Cain’s sign-up sheets for Ascension Breathwork got taken down—but not before the classes filled up. Two full rosters. 30 men each. That’s 60 lives touched.

Each roster trains twice a week. Two guys are already shadowing Cain to keep the program alive once he transfers out next year.

⛓ BACK TO COUNTY

After our Sunday session, I asked Cain how he feels about heading back to county jail.

“Hopefully it’s not for long,” he said. “But it was a good learning experience. County helped me get better connected with my higher self.”

I asked how long he was there before prison.

“Nine months.”

⚙ TOOLS & TESTS

Cain recently retook his Power Tools exam.

“Didn’t pass that one,” he said with a smile.
“But I did pass the Blueprints & Drawings test—and I didn’t even study for that one.”

💭 REFLECTIONS

Has incarceration changed his relationship with his emotions?

“It’s made me more positive. More sensitive. More compassionate. And more resilient.”

When he looks back on the night everything changed—what does he feel?

“Regret. Conviction. Love. Shame
all of it. There was no right choice. I know I messed up—but I did it out of love. I hurt other people. I hurt my family. It’s a mix of everything at once.”

👹👧 FATHERHOOD REIMAGINED

What does fatherhood mean now?

“It’s sacred. I just want to be present. I missed all of my daughter’s games but one. I want to watch her play soccer.”

I told him I get it. I miss my daughters so much, my chest physically hurts.

đŸ„Š BACKYARD SMOKE WITH HISTORY?

Time to lighten it up.

If Cain could challenge one historical figure to a backyard brawl?

“Abraham Lincoln,” he answered, instantly.

Why?

“He signed off on the largest mass execution by a U.S. President—41 Lakota Chiefs and Medicine Men. It was a massacre.”

So you’d fight him to set the record straight?

“Oh, I’d beat on him pretty bad.”

I could tell this wasn’t the first time he’d thought about this fight.

đŸ’Ș THE STONJIĆ FIGHT & FATHERHOOD NEWS

We circled back to his MMA days—specifically the six months between O'Brien and Stojnić. That’s when Michelle told him she was pregnant.

“We were at her apartment,” Cain recalled. “She sat me down on the couch and told me.”

What went through his mind?

“That our family was growing. But I didn’t feel ready. My mind was always on war. I was learning about myself through combat. Bringing love into that? I didn’t feel mature enough. I was nervous.”

Despite the nerves, Cain kept winning.

What does he remember about Denis Stojnić?

“It was in Florida. He trained with Golden Glory out of the Netherlands.”

Did Cain take pride in representing Mexico?

“Yeah. I wanted to fight like Salvador Sanchez and Julio Cesar Chavez—always forward. All offense. Run through guys.”

And against Stojnić?

“He had a good chin. But yeah—I ran through him.”Was family there for the fight?

“No. They didn’t support my fighting at first. They’d ask why I wasn’t using my degree. They’d watch on TV
but it was hard for them to see me get hurt. They didn’t really get it.”

So did he go celebrate with a beer?

“Nah. I was always super critical of myself. My punches weren’t dropping guys like I wanted. People were saying I looked great, but all I saw were the mistakes.”

Back to the gym right away?

“Yep. I loved training. I could’ve trained forever. The fights were just the test.”

📚 FAN QUESTION OF THE WEEK

@TruthSeekerTraining asked:

Cain, are there any specific books that changed your mindset or helped guide your thinking in prison?

“Yeah. Rain of Gold by Victor Villaseñor. He’s Yaqui, like me. I actually tried to get him on a podcast once, but he never responded. It’s about two families during the Mexican Revolution. They lose loved ones. Go hungry. But they stay graceful. They stay connected to God.

Another book I read—can’t remember the name—it was about the Holocaust. A man survives a concentration camp just by holding onto the thought of seeing his family again.

And then there’s The Kybalion. The 7 Hermetic Principles. I’ve read it before, but got it again in county jail. I call them the laws of the universe.”

We may not have Cain next Sunday—court could keep him longer. But I’ll still bring you a Sundays Without Cain edition, with the mood and motion of the yard minus the big guy.

Till then, stay grounded.
